Am I eligible?

Working out whether you are eligible for the Motability Scheme is just as straightforward as applying for a car.

Benefits which qualify

You need to be claiming one of the following disability benefits:

  • the Higher Rate Mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (HRM DLA)
  • the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component on the Personal Independence Payment (ERMC PIP)
  • the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
  • the Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)

To be fully eligible for Motability, you must have at least 12 months of that benefit left to claim. It is also important to note that Attendance Allowance does not qualify you to apply for the Scheme.

Parents, carers and legal guardians for any child over the age of three claiming DLA can make the application on their child's behalf. You do not have to drive the Motability car yourself. As part of the application, you can name up to two other drivers.

Depending on the vehicle, you may not need to use all of your eligible allowance to pay for it. Several Nissan cars are offered with low or zero Advance Payment and attractive monthly rates.
